The Savin Rock counseling staff provides social-emotional learning to all students in the building through a classroom model. Students benefit from ongoing instruction on feelings identification, building relationships, and problem-solving. Savin Rock is also fortunate to partner with both ACES and Cornell Scott - two organizations that provide an extensive array of mental health services. REMINDER | Wednesday, May 22, 2024, will be a half-day session for students due to Staff Development.
To celebrate teacher appreciation week the Savin Rock PTA had a delivery of Westies Nutrition Teas on Tuesday, set up an ice cream bar for teachers and staff on Friday, and had a daily raffle for gift card to a local West Haven restaurant. In addition, the math department, Mrs. King and Mrs. McGowan, delivered snacks to each class to treat teachers.

On April 25th, third graders at Savin Rock took a field trip to the Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonasset Beach State Park! Students explored the Salt Marsh, looking for crabs under rocks during low tide, discovering rock formations, and finding living life forms on the beach!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Throughout the month, we will be highlighting both school and community-based teams that provide support to our students and their families. Also, on May 6th, Pupil Services will showcase our SEL and wraparound supports during the Board of Education meeting.

On Friday, April 26, 2024, Mayor Dorinda Borer and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz visited Savin Rock Elementary School to join an ‘SBAC Pep Rally’ for 3rd and 4th graders! The rally was held in the gymnasium and served as a fun event for students as they prepare to take the Smarter Balanced Assessment starting Monday morning. Principal Joe Lucibello, Mayor Borer, and Lt. Governor Bysiewicz provided some words of encouragement for our students. The kids also had a lot of fun playing games. Best of luck to all our 3rd and 4th graders next week, and thank you to Mayor Borer and Lt. Governor Bysiewicz for visiting Savin Rock and speaking to our students!
